Derrick is a pianist, songwriter, and producer from St. Louis Missouri. He has had a passion for music from an early age. Discovered by his 3rd grade music teacher Dr. Johnnie Howard Franklin Brown, who noticed his ability to play melodies by ear during music class. Derrick began studying piano under the tutelage of Aleda Ward Wells.
Although hesitant to the piano initially, Derrick soon discovered a love for the instrument in learning songs from a variety of genres. Considered by some a human jukebox because of his ability to learn songs on first listen or by dialing them up in his mind.
Derrick has shared that passion for music teaching youth through a variety of organizations ( Neighborhood Houses, Provident Counseling, Youth In Need, YMCA, & Kingdom House ). As well as private lessons for students of all ages, creating and producing music for other artists, performing with likeminded musicians, serving as minister of music for two churches, events for the VA Medical Center of St. Louis, various local festivals, events and productions.
Derrick believes in the transformative power of music and it’s ability to bring joy, healing, and focus to a world often mired by negativity, pity, suffering and chaos.
